Our Goodwill is entering a new era. We have become a leaner, more responsive, fiscally sound organization that is better able to serve our consumers and the communities in which they live. We are looking forward to the coming years with hope and a renewed commitment to helping people achieve their fullest potential.
In response to the economic turmoil and shrinking economy, Goodwill has taken steps to insure the long-term stability of the organization. We were lucky enough to start the sale of the Dorset Street facility before the housing market crashed. The sale allowed us to significantly improve our financial situation and to move out of a very old facility.
In July 2010, we moved in to our new light manufacturing and distribution center on Page Boulevard. We have renovated the building to make it handicapped accessible. The Page Boulevard location is much more accessible to businesses that can provide a continual flow of work for consumers and trainees.
On Sept. 1 2010, in response to a Board decision to consolidate our operation, we sold the rights to our Connecticut services to the Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut. We are now a leaner, more fiscally sound organization. We expect to continue to take steps that will insure our existence as one of the premiere providers of services to people with disabilities who live in the Pioneer Valley. In fact, our new name will be Goodwill Industries of the Pioneer Valley.
I want to thank you all for your patience and support as together we forge a stronger, more responsive and stable Goodwill.
